Utility Companies

While many of Spectra’s new pipelines are being built with LNG exports in mind, in order to comply with federal regulations, Spectra must get utility companies or power plants to purchase some of the gas coming through a proposed pipeline before it is built.

Pressuring companies to cancel their contracts with Spectra can lead to portions of a project being cancelled, or for the the whole proposal to be scrapped. Spectra is terrified of this. For example in May 2015 a 10 mile portion of the “Atlantic Bridge” project was scrapped because a utility company dropped a contract.

Below is a list of utility companies who have signed up as purchases of fracked-gas that would be delivered by Spectra pipeline projects. Utility companies should be committing to renewable energy, not more fossil fuels.
